You should be fine to use the upgrade - I am not sure if there are any pre-reqs - I have only had the chance to do a fresh install myself.

I personally know of a couple of sites that have done the upgrade and been fine. I suppose, to be safe, you could download the full install and keep it near to hand.

Just to ensure continuity in case of any issues, make sure that you document any scheduled processing or reports, and backup your templates esp. those that you have created yourself.
